FHSU-AAUP provides a number of benefits to faculty. Through membership, professors
can stay abreast with the latest trends and issues in higher education, including
the most recent legislative developments in Washington. The association’s national
magazine, Academe, is published bi-monthly, and is an excellent source of information
on national trends in education and the likely impact on university professors.
The Collective Bargaining Agreement
We work for you. The AAUP negotiates with the Administration to secure and/or
improve terms and conditions of employment for faculty. We have worked hard and
for several years to get a good grievance procedure for faculty. Though seldom
formally used on most campuses, such a procedure can head off potential problems
that could lead to significant, and undeserved, harm to some of our members. The
contract (MOA) also contains provisions assuring due process in the event a faculty
member is accused of wrongdoing, as well as provisions against the uses of secret
sources of information in the evaluation of faculty for reappointment, tenure
and promotion. Limited legal assistance is available, should it be required.
We Do It All
The FHSU-AAUP has no paid professional staff. All activities of our Chapter are
conducted by elected officers or volunteers from within the Chapter membership. This helps to keep dues reasonably low while assuring that the best interests of faculty are truly represented.
Who is eligible to join?
Membership in the chapter is open to all full-time faculty who are members of the Bargaining Unit. If you are not a member, then you should join and support the organization that supports you. The more members we have, the greater our bargaining power.
How do I Join?
